Why Your Website (Not Just LinkedIn) Will Make You Rich
Stop Playing the Numbers Game. Start Owning Your Online Presence (and Attract Opportunities Like a Magnet)
Hey there,
Let’s talk about what really moves the needle.
Over the past few months, I’ve been deep in the trenches, building multiple websites, experimenting with tools that go way beyond the usual “create some content, slap it on LinkedIn, and hope for likes” playbook.
I’m working on personal branding sites, social platforms, enterprise resource planning systems and affiliate networks. My life is basically a crash course in digital transformation (minus the boring consultant jargon).
And here’s something you probably didn’t expect: Generative AI is so much bigger than what the “content factory” crowd is using it for. It’s a toolset that lets you rethink what your brand even means—and what’s possible for your career or business.
While a lot of people out there are monetizing via consulting, speaking, and training, I’m going the other way building platforms, products, and helping others as an agency. I want to show what’s actually working, not just talk about it.
My most recent obsession? Converting this very newsletter into a living, breathing theme on my site, charleslau.com, called The Leading Rich. Because let’s be real: finding jobs or making sales is no longer a numbers game. Leading your own online presence is what attracts opportunities. That is what makes you rich.
Let’s call it:
Your website is your new digital handshake.
But here’s the kicker:
Most people get totally stuck on building their site, even though there are user-friendly tools like Wix and Squarespace (yep, that’s probably what everyone knows). It’s not a “how-to” problem. It’s a “why” and “what” problem.
Having a website without strategy is like building a house with no floorplan, i.e. it’s just an empty shell. You don’t just need content to fill it; you need objectives, tonality, and clarity on the value you bring. That’s your foundation.
The same thing happens when you try to build a one-page brochure in Canva. Templates everywhere! But if you don’t know how to make it yours, it’s just new wallpaper on an empty room.
The most basic approach? Use the template, swap out the words, call it a day.
The more advanced approach? Break the template. Personalize it. Make it unrecognizably yours.
Here’s the paradigm shift:
Your website isn’t just a digital CV or online business card.
It’s your platform to lead, to teach, to attract, to own your narrative.
If you’re tired of playing the numbers game or feeling like “just another profile” on LinkedIn… now is the time to build something yours.
